The Caribbean Idol Karaoke Contest is open to passengers sailing on the Bahamas Celebration (“BC”) between September 1, 2010 and May 27, 2011, with a minimum age of 14 years or older. BC shall determine the number of participants per contest for each sailing with an approximate maximum of sixty. Determination of the number of passengers allowed to participate shall be at the sole discretion of BC. Preliminary round winners will be selected by the audience on each sailing. The winners of the preliminary rounds for each month will be invited to participate in the semi-finals on the ship along with all other winners from the same month approximately one week following the end of each month (depending on sailing dates, availability of onboard accommodations, weather, blackout or holiday dates, and other ship factors). The winner of each monthly semi-finals contest, as selected by the audience, will receive a check for $10,000 and invited to participate in the finals on the ship in June 2011. BC reserves the right to add or delete contest sailing dates. At BC’s discretion, there may be an online voting option, which may allow one non-winning semi-finalist to be invited to the finals as well.
There will be one semi-finals winner selected each month from September, 2010, through May, 2011. Each cruise competition may have a varying number of participants, talented singers and audience members doing the voting than others. The voting audience preference is completely subjective and the best singer for the preliminary and semi-finals rounds will be determined based on a tallying of the audience's votes. Audience members shall be allowed to participate on a first-come, first seated basis, subject to the discretion of BC and room capacity. BC reserves the option to alternate between audience voting and a panel of BC selected judges for any competition, without advance notice.
The nine monthly semi-finals winners (and possibly nine monthly winners from online voting if implemented by BC) will compete for the $100,000 grand prize on the ship in June 2011. All participants understand they are responsible for being on the right cruise, day and time and at the right place for each stage of the contest and will lose their eligibility to compete if not available. All travel costs, ship fares, taxes and surcharges, gratuities, travel to and from the port, incidentals, parking, meals on land, and all other costs are the sole responsibility of the participant. Winning of any round does not guarantee participant or their family any passage on future sailings or reimbursement of such costs or the above related travel items.
Professional singers who have signed record deals with record labels and have sold more than 1,000 records/CDs are ineligible. Anyone who misrepresents themselves will be required to return all winnings if it was later determined that false information was given. Non-winning contestants in the preliminaries may compete on future cruises, subject to availability and all costs described above. Contestants are responsible for their own insurance, and by participating expressly agree to indemnify and defend BC from any against any claims of damages or injury relating to the contest. No purchase in addition to regular sailing/travel costs is necessary to participate.
All recordings, videos, images, and promotional rights generated through contest become the exclusive property of BC. BC, at its sole option for placement, use and timing, may market images and sell them in the private sector or public domain without compensation to any contestant.
All decisions relating to this contest or any disputes or issues that arise there from, shall be solely decided by BC. All BC decisions are final. Any violation of the above terms or fraudulent, misleading, disruptive, rude, unlawful or otherwise deceptive or unfair activity shall immediately disqualify participant from contest, and may result in expulsion from ship. If contest winner at any stage is a minor (under 18 years of age), then winning funds will only be paid to a legal guardian or parent of that minor. Participants are responsible for showing a valid ID and establishing age. And guardian or parent must be above to demonstrate sufficient relationship to minor prior to receiving payment. All payments shall be mailed to recipient (or designated guardian or parent) within thirty (30) days after sailing. No winnings shall be paid onboard ship. Winner responsible for all taxes and withholdings, and is encouraged to consult with a tax advisor as contest is being held in international waters. In addition to a competition, Caribbean Idol is intended to provide entertainment for the ship’s passengers. Some contestants may be “gonged” by a member of the audience, cutting off their performance. Contestants should understand that this may be done in the spirit of fun and is only the opinion of one audience member. Being gonged does not disqualify the singer from inclusion in the voting process.
All participants consent to their voice, photograph and/or video being recorded. All photographs and recordings are the sole property of BC and may be used by BC, at its sole discretion, for commercial purposes without compensation to any participant.
All contestants are responsible for providing and bringing own performance materials, including but not limited to: clothing, makeup, audio materials, props, etc. Employees or paid performers of the company are ineligible.
The winning contestant shall have an obligation to perform on the ship on three different cruises in the fall of 2011 on dates that will be specified by BC.
